PLC files a plea in SC seeking full refund of tickets for canceled flights booked prior to and during the lockdown

PLC taking into consideration the growing concerns of a vast population who had booked air tickets prior to lockdown in flights that got cancelled during the sudden lockdown, and were being denied refund option by the Airline company in the garb of credit shell and later advisory dated 16th April, 2020 of Ministry of Civil Aviation which gives direction to the airline companies to refund only those tickets that were booked during the lockdown period and leaves out the vast majority of passengers who had booked tickets before the flights were banned as a result of nationwide lockdown.

PLC filed a PIL before Hon’ble Supreme Court title as Pravasi Legal Cell v Union of India &Anr. (Diary No. 10966/2020), seeking refund for air tickets booked before the lockdown period. This petition was filed in the context of the aforementioned advisory dated 16th April, 2020 of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
